Although the weather wasn't typical for this time of the year with gale force winds and other strange weather scenarios the 8th round of the Maltese Nationals still got underway with yet another strong entry. Three of our present Xray drivers were debuting the new FK05. Gustav Cuschieri in the modified class, and Henry Portelli together with Mario Farrugia in the Super Stock Class.
The three finals for each class where very hard fought with Mario and Henry each taking a win in the Super Stock final. This has placed Mario at the top of the championship leader board with Henry in a very solid 3rd position only 4 points away from the 2nd positioned driver. A very strong performance with the FK05 by both drivers, showing a considerable advantage in corner speed in comparison to the opposition.
With the wind most probably at its strongest the Modified finals began. The cars where surely being slowed down especially in the straight since race lap times surely didn't reflect the very lap times achieved during the practice sessions the day before. Final 1 started off with a 3 way battle between Gustav (FK05), Karl Fenech (FK04) and Joshua Anastasi (TC4), each changing positions as laps passed by. In the final it was Joshua who won by 2 seconds on Gustav and Karl to follow.
Final 2 was a 2 way battle between Karl and Gustav, since Josh hadn't even started due to some technical problems. Gustav won the final with Karl to follow.
Now to the most interesting one, Final 3. Gustav shot off from pole and never looked back dominating the final in style with his FK05 just missing out on the 5min track record by a few milli seconds, however the battle of the day was once again between Karl and Josh. Although Josh had a slightly faster car down the straight way, Karl drove his FK04 in great style regaining the 2nd position every time they passed through the technical section of the circuit, showing the effectiveness of this great chassis when it comes to cornering and Karl's great skills. Infact he finished up taking 2nd position in this final with one of his best drives to date.

Great weekends racing even though we didn't have our traditional sunny weather. The fk05 showed its great potential even though we only had 2 practice sessions before the race. The 9th round of the Maltese championship is to be run on the 1st May where further testing will take place on the track layout. Until then Goodbye !!
